Brightmark LLC, a circular solutions company with a mission to Reimagine Waste®, announced plans Tuesday to develop a 2.5 million-square-foot circularity center in Upson County with the capacity to repurpose over 400,000 tons of plastic per year.

It will be the company’s second Circularity Center® in the U.S. and largest facility to date, according to company officials. Construction will start in 2025 and is set to be completed in 2027.

Brightmark selected Thomaston because of its desire to grow alongside a strong community partner and responsible corporate actor, according to the announcement. Brightmark’s dedication to economic advancement in the Peach State is highlighted by a $950 million investment, which will bring nearly 200 advanced manufacturing jobs, improvements to regional infrastructure, and support economic growth and development in rural West Central Georgia.

“We are pleased to welcome Brightmark to the Thomaston-Upson County business community,” said Thomaston Mayor J.D. Stallings. “As Thomaston approaches the 200th anniversary of our founding, we look to the future and welcome business partners like Brightmark who are focused on building upon the economic stability and urban growth this town has always been known for.”

Brightmark’s proprietary Plastics Renewal® technology takes discarded plastic content and converts it into the materials to create new circular plastic products, diverting waste otherwise bound for landfills, incinerators, and waterways.

“Over the years, Brightmark has invested heavily in talent and innovation required to build and refine a circular solution capable of tackling one of the most complex issues of our time: recycling,” said Brightmark founder and CEO and Georgia native, Bob Powell.

“This investment in Georgia represents a commitment to supporting economic longevity and playing an integral role in building a sustainable future together in my home state,” Powell continued. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer a circular solution that will make a positive environmental and economic impact on a region so near and dear to my heart.”

Brightmark will be a community partner to Thomaston and Upson County and is prepared to support the goals of the community, its economy, and most importantly the health and safety of its people.

“I am excited to welcome Brightmark to Upson County. Bringing diverse industries to Upson has been a priority for some time and I’m proud of our efforts to bring this project home,” said Upson County Commission Chairman Norman Allen. “Over the last year and a half, Brightmark has demonstrated a strong desire to become a collaborative partner and responsible steward of the local environment.

“I visited their plant in Ashley, Ind., and was impressed by what I saw,” Allen concluded. “I want to thank everyone who had a hand in making this happen. This is a huge win!”

Brightmark is steadfast in its commitment to protect the Thomaston and Upson County environment, particularly the water, air, and land that surrounds the site. Extensive planning and investment will be undertaken to ensure there are strong measures to mitigate environmental risk.

Brightmark will invest over $1 million to enable a zero liquid discharge technology to ensure that all process wastewater is managed and processed on site, thereby preventing any contact with any municipal water supply, including drinking water, groundwater, the Flint River, and other local waterways.

The company’s circularity center will be considered a synthetic minor emitter – implementing the best available technologies to reduce emissions.

Brightmark intends to invest $20 million in additive infrastructure projects pursuant to agreements with the city and state as part of the total investment, including upgrades to utilities, roadway improvements, rail access extensions, and other necessary resources to operationalize the business, improve local infrastructure, and positively impact the community, the local economy, and tax base.

“This is a tremendous win for Thomaston-Upson County, and we are thrilled to welcome Brightmark to our community,” said Chase Fallin, chairman of T-U Industrial Development Authority. “Creating jobs, growing our community, and building for our future is the cornerstone of economic development. This project encompasses all of those tenets. We welcome Brightmark to our community and look forward to seeing the project prosper.”

The dedication to the health and safety of employees and the communities where it operates is core to the company’s values and mission, according to company officials. Not only does it adhere to all local, state, and federal health and safety laws, but in many instances, exceeds these standards.

Brightmark will implement detailed procedures to ensure employee safety, including strong training on critical areas such as operating procedures, emergency response, remediation, and lifesaving protocols. The health and safety team will establish a detailed emergency action plan for Thomaston that goes beyond regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

The company reportedly is purchasing 100 acres in the industrial park from the IDA for $2.5 million as part of the investment. The IDA will serve as a “conduit” for the almost $1 billion bond, which does not involve the credit of the City of Thomaston or Upson County, according to local officials.

Brightmark representatives emphasized that the bond “will not [involve] public dollars.”

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded $118 million in funding for 17 projects to accelerate the production of sustainable biofuels for America’s transportation and manufacturing needs. The selected projects, located at universities and private companies, will drive the domestic production of biofuels and bioproducts by advancing biorefinery development, from pre-pilot to demonstration, to create sustainable fuels that reduce emissions associated with fossil fuels. Funding for this opportunity supports President Biden’s goals to deliver an equitable, clean energy future, and put the United States on a path to achieve net-zero emissions, economy-wide, by no later than 2050. Projects selected as part of this funding opportunity will contribute to meeting DOE’s goal to achieve cost-competitive biofuels and at least a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030.

Made from widely available domestic feedstocks and advanced refining technologies, energy-dense biofuels provide a pathway for low-carbon fuels that can lower greenhouse gas emissions throughout the transportation sector and accelerate the bioeconomy. Financing for novel biorefinery process systems can be a barrier to commercializing advanced biofuels, and this funding will reduce technological uncertainties and enable industry deployment.

The selected projects include pre-pilot, pilot, and demonstration projects that will scale-up existing biomass to fuel technologies that will eventually create millions of gallons of low-carbon fuel annually. By investing in these technologies, the projects will create good-paying jobs in rural and underserved communities in nine states. Plans submitted by the selected projects show intent to collaborate with local school districts to educate and train the bioenergy workforce of tomorrow. Additionally, the funded projects align with renewable fuels goals in the first-ever U.S. National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization, a multi-agency framework for reducing emissions, creating a robust transportation workforce, and securing America’s energy independence. The projects also support the U.S. Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge goal of enabling the production of three billion gallons of sustainable aviation fuel annually by 2030 and 35 billion gallons annually by 2050.

The 17 selected projects fall into four areas:

Pre-Pilot Scale-Up of Integrated Biorefineries,

Pilot Scale-Up of Integrated Biorefineries,

Demonstration Scale-Up of Integrated Biorefineries, and

Gen-1 Corn Ethanol Emission Reduction.

The selected projects are located in nine states and Washington, DC, and focus on technologies including anaerobic digestion, conversion of cellulosic sugars to SAF, catalytic biorefining, among others.

Thomaston Mills, a leading manufacturer of quality linens since 1899, announces the launch of American Blossom Linens, a collection of environmentally responsible, luxuriously soft, 100% Made in USA organic cotton bedding.
THOMASTON, Ga. (PRWEB) February 26, 2019 — Thomaston Mills, a family owned textile mill, has been making bedding for over 115 years in the town of Thomaston, Georgia. While nearly all textile manufacturing and production moved overseas, decimating factories and jobs, Thomaston Mills stood resolute and kept manufacturing here in the USA. “The closing of the mills caused a lot of people to lose jobs and struggle in their livelihood,” said long-time Sewing Supervisor, Kawanda.
For the past 20 years, Thomaston manufacturing focused on the healthcare and hospitality market. Hilton, Marriott, Radisson and Intercontinental hotels have all used their sheets.
In response to a massive rise in consumer demand for organic cotton, USA made linens, Thomaston reentered the retail market in December 2018 with the launch of direct to consumer brand, American Blossom Linens. They brought back a brand, originally called Blossom, that was created by Thomaston in the 1940’s with the goal of capturing the old fashioned goodness of their origins. The collection, available now on the American Blossom Linens website, includes sheets sets in twin, full, queen, king and California king, duvet sets in full/queen and king, pillowcase sets and a crib sheet. The linens are generously sized with extra deep pockets to provide an excellent fit on almost any height mattress. “Top or Bottom” labels act as visual cues to help you place the fitted sheet correctly on the mattress.
Thomaston Mills wanted to make environmental responsibility easy, so they made the sheets more substantial, which helps them last longer. They use an advanced all-natural finishing process that softens the cotton to ensure a smooth feel, and a mechanical process that minimizes shrinkage.
“Most people don’t have any idea that their bedding is often coated with toxic chemicals that may have a significant impact on their health and the environment. Millennials are helping inspire consumers to drive a transformation in the industiy by asking “Where does my bedding come from?” said Janet Wischnia, co-owner of Thomaston Mills.
Unlike textiles sourced from overseas, which travel on average 8,000 miles from the factory to your door, American Blossom Linens bedding is made only in the USA using l 00% traceable organic cotton grown in West Texas by family farmers. Their bedding is grown, processed, finished and sewn in the USA, drastically reducing its carbon footprint while supporting American workers all along the way.
American Blossom was created to meet the needs and wants of consumers in both comfort and conscience. The 100% Made in USA organic cotton bedding doesn’t allow the use of genetically modified seeds and restricts the use of many chemicals-making it safe for the environment, the farmers and consumers. Farmers help sustain the land it is grown on through crop rotations, preferring to use mechanical tillage and hand weeding, and the cotton is usually rain fed.
American Blossom Linens emphasizes putting the customer first with their high-quality, fairly priced collection. As geopolitical pressures push the price of imported goods further up, the tides are shifting in favor of local, Made in USA products. They are proud to support supply chain trace-ability, responsible labor practices, and sustainability.
By choosing American Blossom, you are supporting a reinvigoration of the once thriving textile industry and fellow Americans, one sheet and one person at a time.
“Legacy is ve1y important for our family. We are committed to making our I 00% Made in USA organic cotton sheets in Georgia,” says Janet. “We pay our employees a fair wage, offer them healthcare and other benefits and manufacture in accordance with all of the stringent US labor, workplace, health and safety regulations. Those standards are part of our moral “fabric.” We brought back American Blossom because we perceive people are looking for sustainable products, impeccably made in the USA by your friends and neighbors, products that will last and last and never go out of style.” American from the fa1m to the bed.”

Ranew’s Painting Facility Rezoning Request On Fast Track
Published 5-1-2019
By Jim Wheeless

In a special called meeting April 18, the planning and zoning board voted unanimously to approve a request by Rolling 13 Ranch, LLC through applicant WSL Real Estate Holdings, LLC to rezone 44 acres at Delray Road and Highway 36 for a manufacturing plant to paint vehicle parts.
Attorney David Dunaway, representing Ranew’s Truck & Equipment Company, said the company plans to invest more than $13 million and initially construct a 100,000-square-foot building. The facility will house a high-tech eco-paint line, a power coating process and a wet paint line.
The plant will employ approximately 32 people, according to a statement by Ranew’s, and could increase to 55-60 employees within a 12-month period, “if the anticipated demand materializes.” The company is contracted to paint John Deere tractor frames and parts, and plans to be in operation by January 2020.
Director Doug Currier recommended the rezoning based on the location of the property, near the airport and other manufacturing industries. The tract currently consists of two lots with a single family residence, an accessory building, open pasture, and a portion of Little Swift Creek.
Ranew’s headquarters, located in Milner, is the home of three manufacturing divisions, a warehouse and more than 60 dedicated employees. The company has a customer base which includes local, state, national and international companies. Lester & Susan Ranew are the original owners of Ranew’s, and they actively serve as the company’s co-presidents.
“Ranew’s is enthusiastic about the great possibilities and future successes surrounding this facility,” according to a press release, “not only for this enterprise and its new employees, but also for the Thomaston-Upson community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us.”
